A little bit about Benzoyl Peroxide

Why is Benzoyl Peroxide so effective at preventing acne from forming?

Benzoyl Peroxide is, in many personal and professional opinions, one of the most  effective anti acne topical medications available. In fact, it is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. 

Unlike both oral and topical prescription drugs, skin bacteria does not form a resistance to benzoyl peroxide because of its unique oxidative properties which kill the acne enhancing bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes. It is also a strong topical exfoliator which detaches the dead skin cells from inside the hair follicles, thereby preventing new pimples from forming.

It is applied to the skin alone or more often in combination with other topical medications, such as our Special Agent Salicylic Acid , Special Agent Glycolic or our strongest topical medication, the Elite Agent with 10% benzoyl peroxide and sulfur.

Ninja Skincare’s Benzoyl Peroxide is formulated in 5% (for smaller pimples and blackheads only) and 10% (for larger/deeper pimples) concentrations. Most of our clients use the 10% solution for maximum anti acne treatment. There is a small percentage of the population with a sensitivity to Benzoyl Peroxide. Common signs of sensitivity include redness, itching, rashes and possible swelling. Fortunately, for those individuals, we have an alternative medication for them, our Secret Agent Sulfur Formula, which contains no benzoyl peroxide.

Just a few items to consider when using our benzoyl peroxide topical medications:

• It should be noted that benzoyl peroxide increases the skin’s sensitivity to UV radiation. Therefore, we highly recommended to avoid the sun while wearing it and to use our Daily Defender Sunscreen SPF 30. 
• Because it is an oxidant, it will bleach fabric. It is common for those using benzoyl peroxide to purchase white linens, pajamas, and towels or purchase benzoyl peroxide resistant sheets and towels. They really do work!
• As with any topical medication, there will be some slight flaking on the surface of the skin. This should only be a slight flaking, nothing that is excessive or resulting in irritation or redness.
• We do not add any interfering oils, unlike other brands, to our benzoyl peroxide medication and therefore it is the strongest on the market, so apply it sparingly.
