5 Daily Essentials That Should Not Be Skipped

We are asked ALL. THE. TIME for daily skincare tips for maximum results. In other words, what are the basic skincare essentials for a busy life on the go.

To be honest there are so many factors and without reviewing each person’s skin history, skin type, lifestyle, stress level, product use, environmental exposure, hormonal activity and age, it’s difficult to suggest a one-size-fits-all approach to daily routines.

That said, we do know there are 5 proven habits every person should incorporate into their life to ensure clear, healthy skin.

  1. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water each day. Reduce caffeine and alcohol to 1 each max per day.
  2. Get 7-9 hours of quality sleep every single night. Yikes! We know it may be difficult, but recognize sleep is a time for our bodies to heal, decompress, relax, eradicate stressors of life, produce new skin cells… sleep is everything good and nothing bad. Turn off the TV, put your phone in the other room and SLEEP.
  3. Wash you face twice daily and after exercise, regardless of skin type. Wash your face in the morning when you wake up and before you go to bed. If you exercise, wash it again to remove the sweat and subsequent bacteria on the surface your skin. Nothing beneficial to leaving it there!
  4. Severely limit your sun exposure and absolutely, 100%, without fail… apply sunscreen daily. Have you ever heard us say that before? You know, that sun exposure is bad for your skin?  Are you still under the impression that sunshine “dries out pimples” or that a good base tan will “keep you from burning?” Or worse yet, are you thinking that you “tan well?” Well, we are sorry to say that no matter what skin type you have, sun exposure is bad. Not only does it cause premature aging, wrinkles and dark spots, but it causes skin cells to die off more quickly, leaving those of us who are acne prone with a breakout right around the corner. So do yourself and your skin a favor and stay out of the sun. And if you plan on spending any time outside, apply sunscreen to your face.
  5. Exercise daily. This is one you might not correlate with achieving healthy skin. Yes exercise is crucial for  maintaining a healthy weight but it is so much more than a number on the scale. Getting your heart rate elevated for at LEAST 20 minutes a day is essential for your body’s overall health, bringing nutrients and oxygen to all of your muscles and organs including… the largest organ of them all, your skin! Circulating your blood is vital to your body’s health, your heart health, brain health and skin health. So grab a water bottle and take a brisk walk, even if it is only for 20 mins!

Those are the “Daily Do’s.” But we have a “Daily Don’t” as well, and no blog post about healthy skin habits would be complete without mentioning it.
