Clear Skin Series –
How to Take a Shower Properly.

I know this may sound strange – but are you taking a shower properly? How hard could it be, right? Well, in our on-going effort to get clear skin for the universe, I am here to tell you that a LOT of people might be inadvertently negatively affecting their skin in the shower.
Here are 5 simple skin friendly tips for taking a shower.
1. We’re not making tea
Are you (like me) inclined to step into the shower on these colder mornings and crank the hot water to max? Well, it turns out that even though it feels delightful, it’s not the best thing for your skin’s health. Blasting hot water tends to strip your skin of natural oils that protect it and exacerbates skin conditions such as eczema. And if you turn it up hot enough, you may strip so much oil from the skin that even people without skin conditions might feel itchy, turn red, have irritation and excessive dryness.
So what’s the answer? Cold showers? Yikes, no! Your best bet is, as with everything in life, moderation. Keep your water temperature comfortable – not super hot, nor cold….but, as Goldilocks said, “Juuuuust right!”
2. Left over bubbles aren’t your friends
It happens all the time. You’re in a hurry and when you hop out of the shower and start drying off, you notice a little streak of suds on your leg. Or maybe some soap from your face is still on your ear. Since you’re already out of the shower, you just grab your towel and wipe it off, no harm, right?
Most of the time, this won’t cause any problem, but for some skin types, and especially those with acne, it will adversely affect your skin. Dried soap on the skin acts like a constant irritant. This irritation makes your skin produce more skin cells, which die off and make new pimples form. So rinse, rinse and rinse well!
3. Reorder your shower routine
All shampoos and conditioners have sticky coconut oil derivatives to coat your hair and make it shiny and smooth. Unfortunately, these ingredients love to stick to your skin too, which leads to more clogging and ultimately pimples. Not ideal for clear skin!
So the trick is to wash and condition your hair as the first step in the shower, rinse well while tilting your head back and to the side to avoid the hair products from sliding down your face/back/chest/shoulders. As your last step, use your Ninja Skincare cleansers on your face and body to lather off any hair product residues.
4. You’re not in the car wash
We’ve all been told it’s good to exfoliate our skin – and it is – but not to the point where you’re abusing it! Using an abrasive pad/cloth to scrub your skin can make it irritated, red and stimulates more oil production. If you scrub like you’re cleaning the bugs off your car’s windshield, you’re going to freak out your skin and make it produce more skin cells…which die off….and get clogged….and that makes new pimples form.
It’s best to exfoliate gently with a soft facial sponge and spend about a minute lathering your cleanser to lift off excessive oils and loosen dead skin cells. For a super-duper exfoliation, use enzymes which literally digest dead skin cells off your face! Ninja’s Exfoliating Makeover Mask with Papaya Gel contains 2 different enzymes to completely remove topical dead skin cells with NO scrubbing or rubbing.
5. Water quenches more than your thirst
When I get out of the shower, I’m normally rushing to be somewhere 15 minutes ago. This doesn’t leave a lot of time to moisturize which is best done when your skin is still damp or even with visible water drops if you live in a very dry climate. Water hydrates the skin and moisturizers seal in that water, so make sure you apply moisturizer right out of the shower or washing to get the best benefit from your moisturizer.
And THAT, my friends, is how you take a proper shower to achieve clear skin.
