Maintaining Clear Skin While Vacationing
My family and I are on a trip at the moment. That means a lot of quality together time with ALL my kids, ALL the time. 🙂 It means I just realized that it’s time for my 8 year old to start wearing deodorant, that my 3 year old really does need a bath EVERY. SINGLE. DAY, if not twice a day. And it means I just realized my 12 year old is NOT washing her face. Like ever.
I looked over at her just yesterday and saw about 10 small whiteheads forming on her cheeks and I asked, “Did you wash your face today?” She sheepishly looked back at me and said, “No…. I forgot.”
Ok setting aside the fact that her mom quite literally runs an anti-acne skincare company for a second, it got me thinking, Is this a normal, every day occurrence or is she not washing her face just because we’re away? She assures me that at home she tries to wash her face daily, but I am under no illusion that this magical face washing happens twice a day like I have instructed her to do so many times.
Traveling is tough on all levels. Throw in a global pandemic, kids and, oh right, a war, into the mix and it gets even more stressful. And we all know by now that stress can lead to some major acne breakouts.
So what are our keys to traveling and maintaining a clear complexion?
1/ Bring your skincare products with you! We know our cleanser sizes are not always travel-friendly in size but the good news? There are travel size bottles EVERYWHERE you go to buy, fill up and go! We also recommend not to forget an exfoliating sponge to exfoliate all the ‘travel gunk’ off your face every time you wash.
2/ Drink lots and lots of water. This one is kind of a pain point for me because I know how hard it is to have to go to the bathroom constantly and not necessarily having a bathroom readily accessible. That said, always have your water bottle handy – most places will either fill it up for you or have a water filling station nearby. The water will hydrate your depleted body, help flush out waste products and will result in a healthier complexion.
3/ SLEEP! Sleeping while traveling can get tricky. You are in a new bed, possibly a new time zone and there is just so much to see and do. You can sleep later, right? Nope. Your body needs a solid night’s sleep every single night. So even if you’re out carousing around town, try to make it back to home base to get your solid 8 hours of beauty rest.
As I told my 12 year old – that is it! Yes, we have a much longer daily list (eat healthy, get exercise etc) but for short bouts of time, only 3 main things make the list. And that is not overwhelming, is it?
But please, when traveling or at home, try to get in those 2 washes a day…
